Mid May saw a sheaing course being run for students of the Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture and of the Level 6 Drystock Courses, along with one 'visitor', Pat Burns.  George Graham, the main Instructor in Ireland for the British Isles Shearing Competition Association, was aided in the instruction by Pat Moore and Andrew Corrigan.

 

All students reached the standard to be awarded the Blue Seal award, while Diarmuid Mannion attained the Bronze seal standard. In addition  they were awarded two credits towards their Teagasc certificates.

 

Participating in the course were Level 5 students Ciaran Carolan (Ballina Co. Mayo), Pat Fitzpatrick (Ballybrophy Co. Laois), Diarmuid Mannion (Rathcabbin Co. Tipperary), Michael O'Neill (Castletowngeoghan Co. Westmeath), David Rigney (Clonaslee Co. Laois), Joe Rigney (Cadamstown Co. Offaly), Tomás Russell (Clonaslee Co. Laois) and Micheal Walsh (Ballina Co. Mayo) .  

 

The four participants from the Drystock Course were Leslie Armitage (Cloughjordan Co. Tipperary), Denis Hanly (Aglish, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary), James Taylor (Riverstown Co. Sligo) and Gary Hayes (Cloughjordan Co. Tipperary).
