Gurteen students are Europe's top young shepherds - official

Students of Gurteen College led a clean sweep for Ireland at the annual European Final for Young Shepherds in Paris.

Niall Brennan, of Grange Co. Sligo, who won first place with 66 points out of a possible 80, completed the first year of his studies at Mountbellew Agricultural College and is currently on Gurteen’s Advanced Certificate in Drystock Management course.

 

Leslie Armitage, of Cloughjordan Co. Tipperary, who was second with 63 points, graduated from the same course in 2008 and is now pursuing further studies in Waterford Institute of Technology.

 

Sean O’Connor of Kildalton College was third and Jonathan MacKelvey of Greenmount College was fourth.

Details of all Agricultural courses can be got by clicking here.  Gurteen runs FETAC approved Level 5 and Level 6 courses on both full-time and part - time basis.

Courses are also run in Farm related topics such as Animal Transport, Hedge Management etc.
