Career  Profile

Name:                    Wesley Thompson

Address:                 Co. Laois

Completed Course:  2009

Course:  I decided to do the Advanced Certificate in Drystock Managament course to gain more knowledge and experience with handling cattle and treating animals.  Drystock farming has always been my only interest.  The course showed me how to run an efficient and profitable farm.  During the year I also completed an A.I. Technicians course with Dovea A.I. and received a DIY Operators certificate.  I also completed a Hoof Paring course by the Farm Relief Services.

Work Experience:  I completed my 12 weeks placement with Robin Talbot in Ballacolla, Co. Laois.  I ran the entire suckler enterprise while he was away on holidays.  During my  time on the farm I gained great experience and knowledge on how to produce quality animals for the bull beef enterprise.

Future Plans:  I am currently farming my own land at home and working for the Farm Relief Services on a part-time basis.   In the future I hope to study at Waterford I.T. and complete the Ordinary Bachelor Degree in Agriculture course.  This would give me an opportunity to gain a wider range of jobs in the agriculture sector.
