Twelve of the students on the 2nd year course have opted for a full training course in Do It Yourself Artificial Insemination for cows.  Organised by Joe Daly (Gurteen), the instruction is provided by Tony Flannery and Mick Carey from Dovea Genetics. The couse was held over five days.

The first day was held on 20th November in Gurteen, when an artificial cow (Breedin' Betsy) was used to let trainees get the feel of handling the cervix and applying the gun through it.

Participating on the course were Ger Carey (Gurteen), Ross Brady (Edenderry, Co Offaly), Ciaran Carolan (Ballina, Co Mayo), Patrick Finnegan (Dunmore, Co Galway), Michael Harding (Borrisokane, Co Tipperary), Philip Joyce (Templemore, Co Tipperary) Diarmuid Mannion (Rathcabbin, Co Tipperary), Vincent Mooney (Rathdowney, Co Laois), Joe Rigney (Cadamstown Co Offaly), Tomas Russell (Clonaslee, Co Laois), Wesley Thompson (Ballyroan, Co Laois) and Micheal Walsh (Ballina, Co Mayo).
